I am excited to be able to participate in a class this July 14-27 at Boston College. The class is called the “Courage to Preach”. I see this class as a perfect way to bring what I am learning back to our Albertus students to help them become modern day preachers.I know the class will be a powerful way to help me in developing our students’ love of preaching and presenting new approaches to foster their growth in the Catholic Dominican tradition.
The “Courage to Preach” is a six credit post-master’s certificate program for those serving traditional college age adults. This course will help me to read and interpret Scripture and use it as a foundation in preaching on contemporary issues, such as racial, economic, and social justice. The program will teach me methods for preaching and teaching a diverse audience of students. It is especially attuned to the various opportunities, contexts, and media that can be most effective for teaching young adults to preach.
This course will prepare me to develop and implement preaching activities with our Albertus students. The course also explores effective preaching and communication in digital space such as social media environments and video creation. The course focuses on engaging young adults in meaningful ways with special attention to connecting with them through prayer and contemplation.
Once I arrive in Boston, I will keep you all updated as I begin my class.
Peace,
Sr. Cathy
