As a senior at Albertus Magnus, I’ve experienced so many positive experiences here and that is why I love it. Attending a small college like this one has had such a great impact on who I am today not only because of those positive experiences, but because of the friendships I’ve made and the people I’ve worked with who have helped me grow and supported me along the way.
One of the aspects I love most about this College is the small class sizes, which encourage participation and class discussions. I truly feel a connection with my professors in each class. It is an environment where students can talk to their professors and get the help and support they need to be successful in their classes. I believe Albertus puts emphasis on their small class sizes because it has a huge impact on student success. Not only have I had great classroom experiences here at Albertus, but amazing experiences being involved with student life.
I have been involved with the Student Alumni Association (SAA) at Albertus since my freshman year. Being a part of this organization while also having constant support and guidance from my advisor in this association has given me the confidence to grow not only within the group but on campus as a whole.
One of the best fundraisers that the Student Alumni Association runs, and one that I am most proud of is “Change for Change.” Change for Change takes place during the month of February which is international Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month, designated by CASE ASAP. Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month is an initiative to grow student understanding of philanthropy and how giving impacts the current operations of the College. It is also meant to increase student engagement in giving now and as future alumni. The initiative is part of CASE’s goal to foster and enhance student involvement in all areas of advancement — including fundraising, alumni relations, communications and marketing. CASE has sponsored similar initiatives annually since 2013.
Change for Change was born after a series of educational events that SAA hosted in its first two years of existence. Last year, we felt it was time to ask students to actively participate. We encourage our peers to donate extra change they have throughout the month of February and we then welcome all students to apply for the funds raised. These micro-scholarships are then distributed back to students to apply toward tuition, buy books or cover degree completion fees.
This is why I love the Albertus family – being able to see students supporting each other on campus, and also being involved in an organization that truly puts emphasis on this important aspect of college life. I am so excited to be a part of the Alumni Association when I graduate, and be able to go to continue my Albertus journey in the Master of Art’s in Leadership program. I am so grateful I have had the resources here to succeed academically, and the support from inspiring mentors and advisors who have encouraged me throughout my undergrad experience.
