Albertus Small Business Saturday: The Story of Marjorie Eichler ’83 and There’s No Place Like Home Inc.

For Marjorie Eichler ’83, helping children find stability, comfort, and belonging has been a lifelong mission. As the founder and Executive Director of There’s No Place Like Home Inc., a nonprofit residential organization serving children to young adults, Marjorie has dedicated her career to creating a safe and supportive home environment for those most in need.
Founded in 1988, There’s No Place Like Home focuses on serving individuals with disabilities, serious illnesses, and sibling groups, many of whom come through adoption or guardianship placements. What makes the organization even more special is its deep connection to Albertus: the home itself is a former dormitory, Barry Hall, purchased by Marjorie in 1991.
Over the years, Albertus students have volunteered at There’s No Place Like Home during the annual Service Day, helping with yard work and contributing to the spirit of community that defines both the College and Marjorie’s organization. Albertus graduates have even returned to visit the space and reminisce about their days living there.
A Foundation Rooted in Faith, Service, and Connection
Marjorie credits much of her path to the values and mentorship she experienced at Albertus. Reflecting fondly on her time as a student, she recalls the influence of then President Julia McNamara, Sr. Jane McDermott, Dr. Ragaa Mazen, and Sr. Helen Kieran, all of whom shaped her perspective on compassion, leadership, and lifelong service.
Those lessons became the cornerstone of There’s No Place Like Home, where Marjorie’s guiding mission is not only to provide care, but to foster love, dignity, and opportunity for every individual who enters her home.
Words of Wisdom for Future Falcon Entrepreneurs
When asked what advice she would give to aspiring business owners or nonprofit founders, Marjorie’s message is heartfelt and grounded in experience:
“Don’t be afraid to take the leap and found a business or nonprofit that maybe has seemed like an unattainable dream. Do your planning carefully. Get advice from trusted and wise people. Don’t make wealth your goal—expect lean years and hard work. Be kind to the people you meet as you climb toward your goal. And above all, show kindness to those you serve.”
Giving Back to the Next Generation
While There’s No Place Like Home is not currently hiring, Marjorie is open to connecting with Albertus students who are interested in learning more about nonprofit work, residential services, or community-based careers.
Her story is a powerful reminder that meaningful change often begins with courage, heart, and a commitment to serve others. Through her dedication, Marjorie continues to embody the Albertus values of compassion, service, and transformative leadership—proving that, indeed, there is no place quite like home.
