It’s World Chocolate Day! What better way to celebrate than with this sweet throwback?

In 1979, Albertus students attempted the world’s largest candy bar, measuring six feet long, six inches wide, and two inches thick. This difficult delicacy, baked by the college’s Student Government, used 20 pounds of chocolate and two pounds of crushed almonds.

The President of the Student Government, Andrea Lucibello, led the project. She wrote a letter to the Vice President of Manufacturing at the Peter Paul Candy Company and Trustee of the college, John Tatigian Jr., for some help with ingredients.

The story made headlines from East to West, including in the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Herald, and the New Haven Register.
