What Clubs Should I Join?

Being a part of something larger than yourself is always a rewarding experience. Participating with your peers in an extracurricular activity helps build important skills you can benefit from in the real world.
Albertus Magnus College has an abundance of opportunities for club participation, and our club leaders are always offering the student body ways to engage. Plus, participating in a leadership role in a club can lead to eligibility for the St. Dominic Award.
Here are a few of the clubs that Albertus Magnus offers:
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, also known as SAAC, is a sports-focused advocacy group. It is a great club to join for student-athletes or students majoring in sports management.
SAAC is quite active on campus. The club prioritizes bringing together the athletic student body with fun events and giving its participants outside-school experiences like going to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Convention (GNAC), which provides the opportunity for students to make a lot of great connections.
Commuter Council
Commuter Council is a relatively new club, but its impact on campus is an invaluable one. It is Albertus Magnus’s only commuter-focused advocacy group, making sure that commuters get the same amount of attention as their resident counterparts. The Commuter Council assures that their event times are friendly for commuters (8am – 3pm), and highlights more practical events that can assist their attendees. A popular event, for example, is free breakfast and lunch for commuter students.
While commuter-focused, the Commuter Council is open for residents to join as general members, and the meetings are very flexible for different schedules. Commuter Council is a fantastic opportunity to make a change for a large part of the campus community.
Breakwater
Breakwater is known for allowing Albertus Magnus’ students to express their creativity through an annually published book, which is distributed for free. The club prioritizes itself on celebrating the liberal arts side of Albertus Magnus (literature and art), while also collaborating with other clubs and organizations by hosting events and engaging with student life.
Having been around since 1972, Breakwater is a great opportunity for creativity of any form to flourish. The club also teaches advertising skills and gives students the chance to interact with establishments outside of Albertus Magnus. On top of all this, there is an end-of-semester reception to celebrate all of the submissions and people involved with the creation of the book.
Campus Activities Board
Known as CAB for short, the Campus Activities Board is one of the newer clubs on campus and has been responsible for some of the largest events. The club is well known for its commitment to bringing more enjoyment and community to students with engaging events and activities they can participate in with peers.
Between classes, quizzes, and exams, CAB has recognized the desire for more relaxing activities during lulls in the semester– something more than just studying. By planning, implementing, executing, and evaluating diverse programs to broaden horizons, they strive to unify the campus, instill a sense of school pride, and inspire students to become an active part of their community and make the most of their college experience.
Albertus Magnus Chorus
Combining the structure of a credit-bearing course with the social atmosphere of a club, the Albertus Magnus Chorus offers a unique hybrid experience for students. Meeting on Mondays at 7:00 PM, the ensemble serves as a vibrant hub for the student body to connect with new people through a shared love of music. Under Sarah Reed’s leadership, the group operates with a clear purpose: to provide an essential service to the school by performing at ceremonies and campus celebrations.
Beyond internal events, the Chorus emphasizes community engagement and artistic growth. Through leadership roles, students are given tangible opportunities to grow as mentors and performers. The group’s reach extends well beyond campus, offering public performances at nursing homes, local church services, and festive Christmas caroling at the Shops at Yale. Members build essential social skills and foster a deep, lasting connection to the arts in a fun, extracurricular setting.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association (SGA) is one of the largest student-advocacy groups run by fellow students. The club is known for its dedication to gathering student feedback on the state of the college while being committed to changing aspects where it can.
SGA has annual events to engage students. One of the more popular events is the Town Hall, which allows students to talk with faculty from different departments and ask questions. SGA and CAB also collaborate on the Spring Carnival bringing food trucks, carnival rides, and fun to campus.
