Meet Our Veteran Advisor Timothy Kessell

Some unique challenges our veteran students face that our civilian student population may not, is that they are definitely coming from a background and a perspective that few of us – thankfully – have to experience and overcome.  Those experiences are both a positive and a potential barrier to success for that student.

As the Veteran Advisor, my role is to help these students transition from “Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman, and Coast Guardsman” to that student entering the higher ed community.  For some, it may be the first time they’re making this kind of change – and that can be uncomfortable and present unknown obstacles for them professionally and personally.  A lot of times, our Veteran students have that sense of pride – that asking for help is seen as a weakness.  Not being able to effectively communicate this could leave them feeling insecure.

This is where I can help you succeed – because I’ve been there.  Being a Veteran myself, and recently transitioning out of the service and into the civilian workforce – I really feel that personal connection.  If my example can help you feel a little more at ease – that it’s okay to feel vulnerable in a new space – well, that’s just invaluable.

So, it doesn’t matter if you were a member of the military yesterday or 20 years ago, I can help you understand that resources are available and your success ultimately depends on your ability to take advantage of them.

Veteran students are unique.  I understand that.  I’ll help you get there as you enter this new chapter of your life.

I’m Tim Kessell and we here at Albertus Magnus College thank you for your service.
