Over the weekend the United States witnessed two more mass shootings: El Paso, Texas with 20 killed, 26 wounded and Dayton, Ohio with 9 killed, 27 wounded.
Once again we offer prayers for the innocent victims and healing for the families, friends, first responders, and city residents wounded by the growing epidemic of mass shootings.
As we prepare for the feast of St. Dominic on August 8, let us recall how Dominic spoke truth in challenging times and courageously began the Dominicans to be seekers and preachers of truth in their own time, as we are called to do in our time.
We pray:
God of truth,
Dominic brought light to all as a teacher of truth and preacher of grace.
We ask you to give us these gifts as we respond to the challenges of gun violence and division in our midst. Amen.
A candle will burn in memory of the victims in the chapel today.
