Now that you have enrolled in college, it’s time to buckle down and focus on reaching your goals. With this in mind, we have compiled a to-do list to help get you started:
-
Visit your advisor. The role of your advisor is to guide you through your academic journey. They are there to help with choosing courses, scheduling, and any other academic questions.
-
Become familiar with campus. Grab some classmates and take a walk through campus. Make a stop at the House of Bollstadt Pub and celebrate your new adventure! Or if time is short, look through the map on the College website.
-
Once you have registered for your classes and your professor has let you know what books you need, visit the campus bookstore. Save time by purchasing, or even renting, books online.
-
Stock up on school supplies. While individual classes may have specific supply requirements, you can’t go wrong with picking up the basics (i.e., pens, notebooks, folders). Dollar stores are a great place to shop on a budget.
-
Make use of a planner; you probably even have one on your phone. You will be amazed at how much easier it is to balance life, work, and school when you have an actual strategy. [link page: Time Management Tips for the Working Adult] Take the time at the beginning of the week to set your priorities. You know yourself, what you need to do, and what you are capable of. Plan ahead. It is helpful for many students to build a daily routine, making sure to include time for studying.
-
Find out what services and resources are available. If you need help with your studies, stop in to Academic Support Services. Doing research? Visit the library, either in person on campus or through the online route. Having computer issues? Contact Technology Services. Need an in-between-classes on-campus snack? Find out about meal plans. And when you’re ready to go out and demonstrate all the hard work you’ve been doing, especially in a new field, Career Services can help you find that perfect position.
-
Last but not least, sign into your student portal. Here you will find everything from your personal information, College e-mail box, class schedule, grades, and financial aid documents. This portal also contains ways to contact faculty and school departments. It is literally a plethora of resources at your fingertips.
Being a working adult and a student will have its challenges. With this in mind, Albertus Magnus College provides all the means necessary to make your experience here a success. After all, it’s lifelong learners like you who continue to make our educational culture not only diverse, but exceptional.
