Albertus Gives Back Through Community Garden Donations

The Academic Community Garden project at Albertus Magnus College was first proposed in June of 2017. Beginning that Fall, the community garden was established as a way to continue the College’s strong tradition of working to promote social justice and care for creation. The garden has since served as a resource for faculty members and students alike, providing professors with an exciting environment that allows them to integrate a broad range of High Impact Practices (HIPs) and experiential learning activities into their course work.

Acknowledging the fact that our immediate neighbors are facing barriers to health and wellness, all of the produce that comes from the garden has been part of an effort to engage with our local communities in New Haven and Hamden to address these serious issues of poverty and food insecurity.

Since June of 2019, the Albertus community garden has donated over 100 lbs. of produce to the Saint Ann’s Soup Kitchen, located at 930 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT. With a growing campus community, the College is excited to increase involvement with future community garden projects and to continue our tradition of Service.
