Tips When Packing for Move-In Day at Albertus

There are two weeks away until Move-in Day for new students at Albertus Magnus College. Here are some tips on moving into Dominican Hall from Resident Assistant (RA), Savannah Tibbetts ’22.

With having been a freshman moving into Dominican Hall just last year, here are my top tips for Move-In Day to the Class of 2023:

  • Don’t over-pack. Before you start packing, create a packing list of what you need and what you have packed already. If you forget anything, you can always go to the store after class.

  • Organize your belongings. My biggest tip is to only pack the essentials. Rooms can get crammed if there are unnecessary amounts of stuff like TVs, clothes, and furniture. When storing items, I found it best to use plastic totes or cardboard boxes instead of plastic garbage bags. It is also better environmentally in reducing your plastic-use. Boxes stack better than bags and can be sorted easier. If you use an under-the-bed plastic tote, fill it with spare towels and bedding so it can be easily slid under the bed without having to unpack it.

  • Have Fun! Moving into a residence hall is an exciting new beginning, not a lesson in frustration and stress. Be sure to stay organized, pack wisely and plan ahead as much as you can to make this move a fun and exciting new step to a bright future!
