Albertus Magnus College has a long history of educating students to become successful in the education field, helping to guide and facilitate learning for the next generation. Recently, two alumni have been promoted to leadership roles in local Connecticut schools.
Jamie Gallo Whitaker ’85 has been appointed principal of Calf Pen Meadow Elementary. Jamie has been a vibrant member of the Milford Public Schools community for many years. Her professional mantra is very clear: “Is this what is best for students?” This philosophy has continually been reflected in her work at all levels of student interaction. Whitaker’s wide range of experience has provided her many opportunities to serve in leadership roles. During her career, she served on various instructional committees for the district.
Daniel Sullivan ’93 has been named superintendent of Putnam School District, after serving as principal of South Windsor High School for the past ten years. During Sullivan’s time as principal, South Windsor High has seen enrollment in its AP courses triple, created new career-oriented programs in business, engineering, and health, and overseen facility renovations including a new fitness center and the remodeling of the gym, according to a news release from Putnam officials. He says he was particularly drawn to Putnam because of its close-knit atmosphere.
Sullivan serves on the Commission for Public Secondary Schools at the New England Association of Schools and is active in the Connecticut Association of Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. He also currently serves on the Albertus Advisory Panel for Education Programs and was a member of the College’s first baseball team.
