Study Abroad in Costa Rica: Puerto Viejo

For the spring 2019 semester, Leilim Chang-Salazar was accepted to the Universidad Veritas in Costa Rica through the American Institute for Foreign Study as a study-abroad student representing Albertus Magnus College. While overseas, she currently is enrolled in classes ranging from Philosophy, to Spanish, to International Marketing.

“The most recent trip I took was going to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. My friends and I stayed outside of Puerto Viejo, a town famous for its black, sandy beaches. While there, we saw that the culture was very different from San Jose, where we study. Puerto Viejo was rooted deeply in Jamaican culture and customs. This is not seen in San Jose. This little town had so much nature and it’s people were filled with life! Even though both places are in Costa Rica, the Caribbean side is a completely different world.”

Leilim is a current junior at Albertus Magnus College majoring in Health Care Management. She plans to graduate in the Spring of 2020.
