Over this Christmas break, the Albertus Magnus Women’s basketball team overcame many obstacles as well achieved much success on the court. Led by our three senior captains–Kelsey Pendagast, Olivia Sutherland and Chelsea Sherrod–our team was completely transformed. We began our journey together solely focused on defeating every team on our home court as well as qualifying for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament. Throughout the first couple games of the season we learned that the key to being a winning team has nothing to do with talent or abilities, but rather our passion, determination, aspiration and heart. We kept a positive attitude, stuck together and learned that by working harder we will be become better, but most importantly, got to do what we love and give our best effort everyday both on and off the court.
Without homework and classes filling our schedules during winter break, our team was able to spend more time together and develop stronger friendships. Even as a commuter, I found myself constantly on campus with my girls either shooting hoops or watching movies. Christmas was extra special this year because I had something to be especially thankful for, my team. Each day we are learning something new together. With a team prayer before every practice and game, our relationship with God and ourselves continues to improve. I truly believe that we are not only a team; we are a family.
