Momentum in STEM and Nursing

As Albertus celebrates its Centennial Year, the institution isn’t just reflecting on a storied past, it is accelerating into its second century with unprecedented momentum. Recently honored with the 2026 Corporate Heritage Award by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, the College is proving that its 100-year legacy is the foundation for bold academic innovation in its second century.

FEDERAL INVESTMENT

Thanks to the advocacy of our partners, U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and a shared vision for the future, we are proud to announce an award of nearly $1.57 million in federal funding. This transformative investment is specifically designed to address the regional nursing shortage by modernizing science laboratories and integrating immersive virtual reality tools.

ACADEMIC EXPANSION

Building on this momentum, Albertus is expanding its academic portfolio to create more experiential learning in the classroom and accessible entry points into the medical field:

New Associate of Science in Health Sciences: Designed for students ready to take a meaningful next step, this two-year, 60-credit program combines scientific foundations with handson clinical training. Whether entering healthcare for the first time, changing careers, or preparing for advanced nursing study, students gain the industry-recognized certifications needed to move forward with confidence.

Advanced Simulation Labs: This is the bridge between theoretical knowledge and the high-stakes reality of patient care. In the lab, students won’t just read about cardiac arrest; they will manage it in real time, feeling the adrenaline of a clinical setting within the safety of the classroom, without the risks to a reallife patient.

Workforce Pipelines: Strategic educational pathways are designed to move students through the nursing continuum more efficiently. Through the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the State’s first Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)-to-BSN pathway, Albertus is stepping up to meet the need.

LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS

In January, Albertus also launched a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program to address regional healthcare shortages. The inaugural cohort participated at no cost, made possible through support from the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, the State of Connecticut, and the Town Fair Tire Foundation. This funding ensures students pursuing essential certifications have the resources and financial backing to enter the workforce quickly, filling critical gaps in local patient care. The intensive eight-week program blends classroom and clinical instruction, creating an accessible gateway to family-sustaining careers.

INNOVATION AS A TRADITION

As the College honors our Dominican heritage, we remain a beacon of opportunity, ensuring our graduates are not only technically proficient but compassionate leaders ready to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world.
