A President with a Purpose
Naisha Jackson ‘27, future veterinarian has a nice ring to it. She’s always been sure that becoming a veterinarian is the right path for her. “As a little girl, I really loved animals,” she explains. When she found out she could work with animals all day as her job, she was sold.
In her path to becoming a veterinarian, Naisha considered studying both biology and animal science and knew that she would need to go to a good college. She applied to a few schools, but ultimately chose Albertus Magnus. “I decided to go with the biology route…and since Albertus offered that, I was like, well this is a great starting point,” she said, “I could get the degree and all the extracurricular that this school offers.”
Naisha has taken full advantage of both the academics and extracurriculars at Albertus. She is actively pursuing a biology major and is heavily involved in the Student Government Association (SGA).
She was introduced to the club by its former president Shannon Visco. Naisha recalls Shannon telling her “It’s a great opportunity. It’ll add a lot of skills that you would need for the real world.” She was convinced. “I do need those skills,” she said.
Naisha started as a senator, part of the general body of SGA, then became the Director of Community Engagement, and now is the club President. Throughout her time in the club, she has built the real world skills that convinced her to join in the first place. She runs meetings, manages the club senators and executive board, and makes sure that the club runs smoothly.
“SGA is dedicated to improving the daily lives of students everywhere and anywhere we can,” she says. Naisha holds SGA to high standards because she wants the club to be the best it can be. “I know that my team can handle the tasks that I hand out,” she explains.
Naisha’s motivation for everything she does? “My mom is my role model,” she says. Her mother is an immigrant from Haiti and had a rough life growing up. “She didn’t let that stop her though,” Naisha says, “I know I’m not gonna make her proud if I just quit when she went through all of that.”
