Albertus Small Business Saturday: The Story of Angelina Miceli ’11 and Her Path to Private Therapy Practice.

For Angelina Miceli ’11, helping people heal is more than a career—it’s her calling. As the founder of Angelina Miceli LCSW PLLC, a private mental health therapy practice in Southport, CT, Angelina works with clients ages 17 and up to heal unresolved traumas, overcome anxiety, and build lives rooted in strength and purpose.
Her journey to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and business owner is one of discovery, perseverance, and trust in the process.
A Path Shaped by Albertus
Like many Albertus students, Angelina began college unsure of her future career path. That changed when her advisor, Professor Jorgensen, suggested she take a Sociology class. From the moment she stepped into Dr. Patricia Yeaman’s Introduction to Sociology course, Angelina was hooked.
She soon declared Sociology as her major, further inspired by Dr. Yeaman and Dr. Kendrick, who fostered within her a deep appreciation for the subject. The turning point came in Dr. Yeaman’s Social Work: History & Practice class, where Angelina first learned about the social work profession and its diverse career opportunities.
“That was when everything clicked,” Angelina recalls. “I realized I wanted to pursue my MSW and become a Clinical Social Worker. Albertus gave me the spark and the confidence to pursue this path. I truly wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for my time at Albertus. The guidance of my professors changed the entire trajectory of my life.”
Building a Career and a Business
After graduating from Albertus, Angelina took a year off before enrolling at New York University, where she earned her Master of Social Work degree in 2014. She went on to gain valuable experience in schools, non-profits, and private practice settings before stepping into a leadership role as Clinical Director at Positive Directions, a small non-profit in Westport, CT.
Over seven years, Angelina built her clinical expertise while also gaining the management and business experience needed to eventually take the leap into entrepreneurship.
In 2023, she launched her own full-time private practice. Today, she empowers her clients to break free from the weight of trauma and anxiety, providing compassionate care grounded in her extensive experience.
Advice for Future Falcon Entrepreneurs
When asked what she would share with those in the Albertus community considering business ownership, Angelina’s advice is bold and inspiring:
“Be brave. Take the risk (thoughtfully, but take it). Trust yourself and don’t be afraid to let yourself down—if you can work hard for someone else, imagine how much harder you will work for yourself. There’s no such thing as failure, just lessons learned.”
Looking Ahead and Giving Back
While Angelina Miceli LCSW PLLC is not currently hiring, Angelina is open to connecting with Albertus students interested in social work careers or internships. Giving back to the next generation of Falcons is her way of paying forward the support and inspiration she once received.
Her story is a reminder that courage, passion, and a willingness to take risks can lead to not only professional success, but also meaningful impact in the lives of others.
