Check-In From Sr. Cathy in Boston
Dear Albertus Community,
Sr. Cathy here checking in from Boston College, School of Theology and Ministry!
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far?
This first week of classes has gone by in a blink! Only one more week to go!
My classmates and I are learning about preaching in diverse communities such as young adults (like us at Albertus), multi and inter-religious (like us at Albertus), multi-ethnic and multi-racial (like us at Albertus) and LGBTQ+ and Nones (like us at Albertus).
Our class focuses on engaging diverse communities in meaningful ways. It has incorporated interreligious dialogue and Catholic Social Teaching as a way to engage people. Multiple justice and service related themes have been highlighted. Each day the focus has integrated contemporary issues as a way of engaging people from diverse traditions and backgrounds (like us at Albertus)!
I have preached twice this week and will need to complete two more preaching experiences in order to complete the class. I’m spending the weekend doing research and getting advice from my professor. I’ve been able to glean lots of good tips and techniques to bring back to our next group of Albertus students who will be preaching at Albertus this upcoming year! I’m excited to be given this experience and I’m hoping it will help me grow as a preacher as well.
I have had time to connect with some of my religious sisters who live in Boston as well as my niece, great-niece and Goddaughter who live just outside the Boston area.
I look forward to seeing all of you in August back in New Haven as the new semester begins and as we welcome the class of 2029 to our Albertus community.
