For many families considering a college education for their upcoming high school graduate, tuition fees are at the top of the list of deciding factors. In a recent podcast, Mike Cardinal of SpringPath, a college-matching service for high school students, sat down for a second interview with Carli Colavolpe, the Admissions Counselor and Athletic Liaison at Albertus Magnus College. Carli recalled her first experience visiting the Albertus Magnus campus and remembers how friendly and inviting the campus lifestyle was, which ultimately helped make her decision to apply. This, combined with many opportunities on campus and a plethora of financial aid rewards, make for what Carli calls “a private education at a public cost.”
Because Albertus is a smaller school, designed to have an average class size of fifteen students, close connections can be quickly formed between students and faculty. Carli said this was one of the main reasons she left her larger school, where she “felt more like a number.” This personalized environment can help with opportunities like internships right off the bat, which in turn can lead to full-time employment right after graduation. Carli herself was hired by the school only two months after graduating thanks to the internship she received.
Albertus is known for their substantial academic programs, including Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology, and Health Sciences. Their Psychology and Health Science departments specifically include unique degrees students can pursue, such as a dual degree called Art Therapy and a Co-Op program with Fairfield University for students interested in Nursing. Outside of academics, Albertus’ athletic program is substantial, with sixteen (soon to be seventeen) Division Three sports teams on campus and over 50% of the undergraduate student body are involved in at least one of them. Decisions on where students go after high school often ends up depending on financial aid. This is a top priority for Albertus, meaning that when it comes time for students to apply, they are in for a treat. Besides their application process being straightforward and accommodating, Albertus also offers substantial merit scholarships for incoming freshman. The “Albertus Guarantee” is given to every student applying for their first year, range from a minimum of $10,000 and up to $24,000 a year, adding up to $40,000 to $96,000 through all four years of attendance). This is an amazing deal for any student looking for a quality education at a low cost.
