Safe and Equal Access to Art Materials for All MAATC Students

MAATC student Katelyn receives her personal art bin and portfolio for the academic year.

Art materials are an important part of learning to become an art therapist.  In an effort to provide equity and accessibility to art materials for learning during the pandemic, the Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Program (MAATC) is providing each student with an art bin of basic, new art supplies and a portfolio for transporting art.

The art bin and portfolio are for students to keep and use throughout the academic year, whether attending class online or on ground.  In this way, all students will have access to the same art materials when working from home to complete assignments.  Each art bin and portfolio have a handmade tag with the student’s name on it to ensure materials are not shared when attending classes on campus.

Items in the art bin include:

General’s Sketch and Wash Pencil – Soft, Vine Charcoal, Erasers, Sharpie Ultra-Fine Point Marker – Black, Package of various collage papers, Package of bleeding tissue paper, Faber-Castell Grip Oil Pastel Set – Assorted Colors, Set of 12, Lyra Aqua Brush Markers Duo Set – Set of 12, Staedtler Triangular Watercolor Pencils – Set of 24, Pelikan Opaque Gouache Set of 12, Liquitex Basics Acrylic Set – Color Mixing Set, 2.5 oz Tubes, Assorted Brushes, Modge Podge, Glue Brush, Glue Stick, Canson Artist Series Mix Media Pad – , 9” x 12”, Portrait, Wirebound, 20 Sheets.

Creating safe and equal access to art materials is one way we are helping our students feel prepared for their hybrid learning schedule.

The art materials in the kits are of excellent quality and should provide students with a satisfying art making experience whether in the classroom or at home while simultaneously reducing concerns about transmission risk through sharing of materials. MAATC is COVID-19 Ready!
