First Sunday of Advent Reflection

Scripture reading

“In those days, in that time, I will raise up for David a just shoot; he shall do what is right and just in the land. In those days Judah will be safe and Jerusalem shall dwell secure; this is what they shall call her: “The Lord our justice.”    Jeremiah 33:15-16

 Reflection

How we yearn and hope for the time when all is right and just in the land. Advent reminds us that the “just shoot” is coming.  This “just shoot” is marked by a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength. Springing from the “just shoot” love will abide and there will be peace among all peoples. This is the blessed hope we ask for during this Advent season because of our trust in the saving power of God.

Practice

Each day how can I bring justice, peace or hope to someone who is struggling with some injustice, pain or despair. A phone call, a card, a visit can give others a glimpse of God’s vision of love and peace for all of us.
