This summer Albertus Magnus College students from the Student Alumni Association took off for Columbus, Ohio, for the annual CASE ASAP Convention (we go to a different city every summer) in hopes of bringing back many great ideas from other organization across the country and to show just how amazing our SAA and Albertus really is!
While in Ohio, we enjoyed the beautiful arena district of Columbus, checked out the Ohio State Fair, and had a very impressive tour of Ohio Dominican University (ODU), the sister school of Albertus Magnus College. Both of our colleges are supported by the Dominican Sisters of Peace.
Our tour was given by Sr. Margie and Fr. Paul, two of the sweetest and most energetic people we meet during our trip. It was amazing how much you could see the love they have for their University and home. The campus was absolutely beautiful, just like our campus here at Albertus. At ODU, they have students similar to ours but also have many members of the Dominican order who are a part of their community because the Motherhouse is located on the ODU campus.
Two of the buildings at ODU have the same name as our buildings, Sansbury Hall and Mohun Hall. We took a peek at both, Mohun at ODU is the Motherhouse for the sisters. Sansbury was home to one of the College’s chapels and a ballroom which we learned that alumni of ODU often come back and get married in. Mohun Hall at Albertus houses the Office of Admission, Advancement and our President. Sansbury at Albertus is the all-women’s residence Hall.
After walking through campus, Sr. Margie and Fr. Paul took us to their Bookstore and Snack Bar and bought us all a round of delicious smoothies and took lots of selfies to remember this amazing experience! ODU had so many beautiful characteristics, both physically and within the people that make up the community. We so enjoyed seeing and feeling the things that unite us as colleges in the Dominican tradition.
