Amina Khokhar, ‘22, ‘23 M.B.A. has carried the values of community, service, and leadership into both her career and her continued connection with Albertus Magnus College. Since graduating, she has remained committed to making a difference by bringing her passion for service and community involvement into her professional life. She now works at ConnCORP, a non-profit organization in New Haven, CT, where she plays a key role in developing programs that support community growth, with a strong focus on economic empowerment and social equity. Amina believes that providing people with the right resources is essential for success, which is why she advocates for financial literacy workshops and specialized support for local entrepreneurs. She sees these programs as essential tools that help individuals gain the knowledge and skills needed for stable employment and financial independence.

Impact of Albertus Magnus Education

During her time at Albertus, Amina’s education was about more than just earning her B.A. in Art Management and her Master of Business Administration. It was a life-changing experience that gave her important knowledge and skills that would help her in her future career. She learned more about the challenges of running organizations, especially in the non-profit sector, where ethics, laws, and community needs all come together. Out of all the courses she took, religion and law had the biggest impact on her. These classes helped her see the world from a broader perspective and taught her how to think critically about complex issues. Studying religion helped Amina understand different cultural values and ethical beliefs, which is important when working with diverse communities in non-profit organizations. Her law classes, on the other hand, gave her insight into the rules and regulations that non-profits must follow, as well as the policies that affect their ability to stay financially stable and advocate for important causes.

Getting Involved

Amina realized the importance of being active and engaged in her community, understanding that participation goes beyond just attending events, it helps build connections and create a positive impact. As President of the Campus Activities Board (CAB), she organized events that brought students together, giving them opportunities to form friendships, relieve stress, and feel a sense of belonging. She worked hard to ensure these events were diverse and inclusive so that all students could participate and connect. Additionally, as a Resident Assistant (RA), she played a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment within her residence hall, offering support, guidance, and mentorship to students adjusting to college life. Through these leadership roles, Amina saw firsthand how involvement strengthens communities, and she learned that being a leader isn’t just about holding a title, it’s about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Even after graduating, Amina has remained closely connected to the Albertus community. Each year, she actively participates in different service events, demonstrating her commitment to giving back to the college that played a significant role in shaping her both personally and professionally. Whether through mentoring current students, attending alumni events, or contributing to service projects, Amina continues to uphold the values of leadership, community, and service that Albertus instills in its students. By staying engaged and making a difference in her community, Amina exemplifies how Albertus Magnus graduates carry forward the institution’s values, using their education and experiences to positively impact the world around them, no matter where they go.

Advice for Future Falcons

For prospective and current students at Albertus, Amina offers invaluable advice that she believes is essential for making the most of their college experience: get involved. She emphasizes active participation in campus life. Whether through clubs, sports, leadership roles, or forming connections with professors, it plays a vital role in both personal and academic growth. From her own experience, Amina realized that college is not just about attending classes, completing assignments, and earning a degree; it is about fully immersing yourself in the many opportunities available beyond the classroom. She encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and engage with different extracurricular activities, as these experiences provide valuable skills that go beyond what is taught in textbooks. Being part of student organizations or taking on leadership positions not only helps develop teamwork and communication abilities, but also builds confidence and a strong support system.
