Retired, adjunct faculty member in the Master of Fine Arts in Writing program, Professor Robert Ernest Hubbard has recently published his newest book, “General Rufus Putnam: George Washington’s Chief Military Engineer and the “Father of Ohio.” Ten of his books have been published in the past, now including his most recent historical biography of Major General Israel Putnam.
Released on August 12, 2020, Hubbard’s work follows a historical figure “during the American Revolutionary War…As the designer and builder of major fortifications, he helped American forces drive the British Army from Boston. Several years after the War, Putnam personally founded the first permanent American settlement in the Northwest Territory, which was ceded to the new American nation by Britain. Putnam saw to it that slavery would not be permitted in the State of Ohio, leading the way for Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin to enter the U.S. as free states. This first full-length biography of Putnam in more than 130 years covers his wartime service and his efforts to prevent the expansion of slavery.”
Hubbard’s 2009 book, “The Last Survivors,” was released by Publishers International Ltd. to all Barnes & Noble and Borders stores in the United States. He has also been published by Arcadia Publishing and History Press.
