Albertus Small Business Saturday: The Story of Marisa Musumeci ’13 and Marisa Musumeci Counseling, LLC.

Supporting teens, young adults, and professionals through life’s challenges is at the heart of Marisa Musumeci Counseling, LLC, a practice founded by Licensed Professional Counselor Marisa Musumeci ’13. Specializing in helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, burnout, and life transitions, Marisa has built a practice grounded in compassion, purpose, and meaningful connection.
A Journey Rooted in Compassion and Confidence
Marisa’s path to opening her own counseling practice was shaped in part by her time at Albertus. She credits the College (Dr. Joy and Dr. Evarts in particular) for inspiring her and instilling confidence within her. “The mentorship of Dr. Joy and Dr. Evarts, who were incredibly supportive and inspiring at Albertus, helped me believe in my path and ultimately gave me the confidence to go into graduate school and build a practice that reflects my values,” Marisa shares.
From the classroom to private practice, Marisa’s work is fueled by the belief that people thrive when they have the right support. Her approach emphasizes empathy, understanding, and creating a safe space where clients can explore their challenges and discover their strengths.
The Albertus Impact: From Student to Counselor
Marisa reflects on Albertus as the foundation of her professional journey. The encouragement she received not only prepared her for the academic rigors of graduate study, but also instilled the self-belief needed to take the leap into entrepreneurship: “The support I had at Albertus was transformative,” she says. “It wasn’t just about learning the material; it was about having people believe in me before I fully believed in myself.”
Today, Marisa extends that same mentorship to the next generation of mental health professionals. She is open to connecting with Albertus students and new graduates interested in internships, supervision, and guidance as they enter the field.
Advice for Aspiring Albertus Entrepreneurs
Marisa’s advice to future business owners is simple but powerful:
“Don’t wait until it’s ‘perfect’—just start. Post the content. Try the idea. Say it out loud. Finding your voice and your niche takes time, but there’s truly something out there for everyone. The world needs what only you can bring, so take the leap and figure it out as you go. That’s where the magic happens.”
Looking Ahead: Guiding the Next Generation
While Marisa is not currently hiring, she is committed to fostering growth and opportunity for future clinicians. She welcomes conversations with students interested in exploring the counseling profession and is passionate about supporting others on their own journeys.
Whether you’re an Albertus student considering a career in mental health or an alumna or alumnus thinking about starting your own business, Marisa’s story is a reminder that with courage, mentorship, and a willingness to start, you can create something that truly makes a difference.
