Albertus Alumnus Returns Home to ‘Pay it Forward’
By Sarah Barr, Media Communications Specialist

Justin Sudol ’18 has a formula for success.
“What I’m doing at home + Albertus = what I’m doing with my career,” said Sudol of his journey into the investment world.
Having deaf parents, this First Generation graduate prioritizes personal communication. Sudol earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Healthcare Management and is now working as the Director of Investor Relations at Alpha Capital, an investment firm based in Shelton, Connecticut
An untraditional pathway, yes, but Sudol credits Albertus for helping him find his way.
“When I graduated, I found a healthcare job as a Business Development Manager — a corporate type of position. I’d facilitate relationships with doctors and implement practice strategies,” Sudol shared. “At that time, I realized I wanted to go more into investments. In my search, I broadened my horizons but maintained the fundamental aspects of communications and sales. “
At the end of the day, “it’s all about creating and sustaining relationships.” It’s a skill he naturally had, but honed further at Albertus. These are transitional skills needed to be flexible in today’s emerging world.
As Sudol ventured in this new direction, he recalled valuable advice from professors. “Bill Aniskovich, he pushed me towards Healthcare. He even helped me open an online business while in college. He helped me really think of the big picture,” recalled Sudol, who also lauds the Office of Career and Professional Development.
“I was able to go to career fairs while in college — see what opportunities were out there. Career Services provided opportunities in my field and enhanced my resume,” Sudol said of his marketing and social media internship with the Walter Camp Foundation.
Sudol says internships are important because they help students comprehend what they like and don’t like to do. Sudol knew he needed to have personal contact with people.
“I like being engaged in person,” said Sudol, who is fluent in American Sign Language. “I try to use my deaf culture and community and educate the hearing impaired about the world of finance and real estate.”
Reflecting, Sudol encourages today’s Albertus students to put themselves out there as much as possible.
“Say “yes” to opportunities while they are out there,” he suggested. “I wish I tried even more things. It could have sped up my career even faster.”
Sudol’s advice: take advantage of every opportunity.
“The world is at your fingertips. Don’t let anyone tell you ‘no’ or try to stop you. Find someone who has gone through what you’re going through. Have an accountability partner. Battling things by yourself is the hardest. Bring someone along, it makes it easier.”
He endorses “paying it forward” and has started an internship at Alpha Capital…and, you guessed it, the first intern came from Albertus.
One last word of advice: always lean on Albertus.
“I’m getting better connected with Alumni. I’m more engaged now with Albertus than I was as a student because I was working two jobs and running an online business. But I knew I always wanted to do more in the future.”
Now he is giving back to the community that gave him so much.
