During Thomas Sabin’s initial weeks at Albertus, his professors reported that upon entry to college, many first-year students don’t know what career path they’ll pursue. This was not the case with Thomas.

The East Haven native has big dreams. Specifically, Thomas dreams to one day broadcast the World Series. He got a little taste of the commentator-life for the first time on August 28th, 2021.
Paradise Alley Professional Wrestling (PAPW), a pro-wrestling training center out of East Haven, allowed Thomas to commentate on their show over the summer. The event aired on FITE TV, a popular pay-per-view network.
“I’m still on cloud nine that this all happened.”

Thomas feels confident now, but in the beginning, he says many fans were skeptical about his abilities— they wanted someone with significant experience sitting in the commentary box. Retired pro-wrestler and trainer at PAPW, Mario Mancini, insisted Thomas has what it takes. The nerves eventually melted away, and Thomas says the experience went incredibly smooth.
“I thought, if I felt so comfortable after the first time, maybe this really is my destiny. Maybe this really is what I’m meant to do.”

PAPW was impressed. He got another invite to commentate on their most important event of the year in September at the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven (JCC) in Woodbridge.
If it wasn’t obvious by his long-term career goals, Thomas’ favorite sport is baseball. Two of his biggest inspirations: the Boston Red Sox and his neighbor Richard, who sadly passed away in 2020. Thomas learned a wealth of knowledge about the sport from Richard. Now, he finds his ambitious sports commentator dreams more meaningful. Thomas says this is a way to make Richard, a man that became like a grandfather to him, proud.
