Conoce a Ashley Angeles, estudiante de último año en Albertus Magnus College que se identifica como Latine. Sus padres son de Lima, Perú, y su primer idioma fue el Español.
Fuera del aula, Ashley es muy involucrada en la Junta de Actividades del Campus (CAB) en Albertus como la Coordinadora de Promociones y Marketing. Especializandose en comunicaciones, Ashley encuentra este puesto en CAB emocionante ya que considera un camino en el marketing de redes sociales después de graduarse. También se mantiene ocupada como estudiante de estudio y trabajo y a la vez como asistente de panadería por la noche, ¡solo por nombrar algunos de sus trabajos!
Al ser Latine y Peruana, Ashley se siente muy conectada con sus raíces y dice: “Me encanta sentirme conectada con algo más que conmigo misma”. Ashley vio ser Latine como una barrera mientras crecía, pero ahora lo ve como algo de orgullo. “Aprender a abrazar mi cultura y otros aspectos de mí que otras personas pueden no haber aceptado es algo que aprendí lentamente al crecer y todavía estoy aprendiendo a estar realmente bien con cada aspecto de quién soy”, dice Ashley. La familia Albertus la ayuda con su identidad con estar rodeada de personas de diferentes culturas en el campus.
Meet Ashley Angeles, a senior at Albertus Magnus College who identifies at Latine. Ashley’s parents are from Lima, Peru, and Spanish was her first language. Outside of the classroom, Ashley is heavily involved in the Campus Activities Board (CAB) at Albertus as their Promotions and Marketing Coordinator. As a communications major, Ashley finds this role at CAB exciting as she considers a path in social media marketing after graduation. She also keeps herself busy as a work-study student and a bakery assistant at night, just to name a few of her jobs! Being Latine and Peruvian, Ashley feels very connected to her roots, saying “I love feeling connected to something more than just myself.” Ashley saw being Latine as a barrier growing up but now sees it as something to embrace. “Learning to embrace my culture and other aspects of me that other people may not have accepted is something I slowly learned growing up and am still learning to actually be okay with every aspect of who I am,” says Ashley. The Albertus family helps her embrace her identity while being surrounded by people of many different cultures on campus.
