One of the great women saints of the Dominican Order is Catherine of Siena. Catherine was born in 1344 in Siena, Italy. Although Catherine had no formal education as a child she left us her Prayers, Letters and Dialogue (with God). At Albertus Magnus College we look to Catherine for inspiration as a person who was close to God, compassionate to others and courageous in her willingness to speak the truth to injustice.
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Catherine of Siena. Many of us know Catherine as a Dominican laywoman, who was a leader, speaker of truth, peacemaker and advocate for prisoners.
During this time of pandemic, we also remember Catherine as a healer. Because of her outreach to the ill during her time, Catherine is known as a patron of nurses. Let us ask her intercession for all of the sick and for all healthcare workers who bring healing and support to their patients. Enjoy this time with Catherine.
