Being a student athlete is never a simple task. As student athletes, a lot of our time is invested in the sport itself, for me its Softball. From practice, to games, our schedule is always packed, taking up more than 30 hours of our week during season time. With that time being occupied, its a major balancing act to juggle school and softball. There are countless times that I’ve had to miss class just to be able to travel to where our games are. Often, just traveling to and from these games can take over 5 hours, and when you get off that bus all you want to do is shower and go to sleep only to wake up for that 8:30 morning class. Basically season is like trying to hold your head above the water, considering the amount of things you must do. Waking up on time, handing in assignments before the deadline, getting to practice on time, getting to your games on time, performing well during your season, and staying SANE!!
Although season is tough, our teammates always seem to get us through the days. The bonds that one shares with a teammate is like no other. I feel connected with my teammates because we go through the same struggles between academics and athletics. We fight like siblings but trust and protect each other like best friends. We work toward getting the championship banners, the trophies, the awards, and the accolades for Albertus. . When we put on that uniform, we are no longer just representing us as individuals, it’s something much bigger than that. When I look in the mirror before a game, or even before a practice, I feel tremendous pride being that I have the opportunity to play the sport I love, in college. When we step on that field, I represent my coaches, my teammates, and Albertus as a whole and there is no better feeling than that.
