When you’re not hitting the books or taking advantage of all the extra-curricular activities that Albertus Magnus College has to offer, you may want to check out some of the incredible winter activities that you’ll find in Connecticut!
Hit the Slopes
For a small state, Connecticut is big on ski areas, and even if Jack Frost doesn’t always cooperate, the snow machines will. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, a skier, rider or tuber, you can reach any Connecticut ski resort in under two hours: Powder Ridge, Woodbury, Mohawk Mountain, Ski Sundown and Mount Southington. If it’s cross-country exploration that you’re looking for, here are some excellent trails.
Sharpen Your Blades
Ice skating is a fun activity for all family members and Ralph Walker Rink is right in Albertus’ backyard. The rink offers public skate sessions, stick time (adult sessions and children’s sessions), pick-up hockey and freestyle times, and learn-to-skate programs. After your session, warm up with a delicious hot chocolate and some snacks in front of the roaring fire.
Fulfill Your Need for Speed
Have you always wanted to be a Formula 1 driver? Here’s your chance — sort of. On Track Karting in Wallingford has some of the longest and fastest indoor kart tracks in the country.
The complex is open daily and has open racing and leagues for both adults and juniors. No driver’s license necessary. Bring your friends, and your competitive spirit, and take advantage of group discounts.
Climb to the Sky
It™ Adventure Indoor Ropes Course located in the rear of Jordan’s Furniture promises fun for all ages. This is the largest indoor ropes course in the world and features two 60’-high ropes courses with more than 100 challenges within, such as rope ladders, plank-walking and zig-zagging beams. Are you more of a climber? Try the four unique climbing activities, which are not designed for the faint at heart. Or would you rather fly? Ride one of the four 200’-long ziplines, the longest SkyRails™ ever made, including the one that soars over a 1,000-nozzle fountain choreographed by the same people who created Radio City Music Hall, The Grand Ole Opry and Michael Jackson Tour experiences.
Don’t let the winter blues get to you this season. We’ve only listed a few examples of what Connecticut has to offer if you’re looking for thrilling, but safe adventure. What would you add to this list?
