Living on Campus in New Haven

Screen Shot 2014-10-08 at 10.09.34 AMYour new life as an Albertus Magnus student is about to begin, bringing with it all sorts of awesome experiences. And while we’re sure you’re eager to start your academic journey, we think it’s a safe bet to say that you’re extremely excited about living on campus. On the other hand, Mom and Dad may not totally share your enthusiasm. (They will miss you and having you go out on your own for the first time can be a little nerve-wracking for them.) In light of all this, we have come up with a list of the benefits that living on campus offers:

Convenience. When you live on campus, everything you need is right there, contained in a secure environment. You won’t have to worry about facing traffic on the way to and from class or having to drive home late after events. Everything that Albertus offers is just a safe walk away.

Dorm Community. When you move into a dorm, you are immediately immersed in a close-knit, supportive educational community that fosters academic success. At Albertus Magnus, all freshmen are housed in Dominican Hall. Here you’ll meet peers with all different backgrounds and interests and make friendships that will last a lifetime. You’ll also have Resident Assistants (RAs) who are not only there to keep you safe and offer support, but also to plan dorm activities and make sure you are having fun.

Food. We probably don’t need to say more, but we will. The DeDominicis Dining Hall is the on-campus dining hall where you can eat for free 19 times a week! (Okay, the price is included in your room and board payment, but it’ll seem like you are eating for free.) And for those of you with dietary restrictions (lactose intolerance, food allergies or vegan/vegetarian or kosher requirements), contact the College’s Director of Food Services to ensure proper alternatives are available.

Things to do. We’ve already mentioned how living on campus is convenient for attending the numerous academic and recreational school events Albertus hosts, as well as how your RA will set up activities for your dorm, but how do you find out where and when all of the cool things are happening? For one thing, you’ll see fliers up all over campus, but you can also find out in the same way many people get their news these days: social media. Follow Campus Activities and Resident Life to be in the know! At Albertus Magnus, we pride ourselves on the strength of our community atmosphere.

We haven’t even begun to discuss the things you can do living in New Haven — one of the most culturally diverse cities in the county. But then again, with all of the activities offered on the Albertus Magnus Campus, why would you ever want to leave? (Except of course to visit the parents back home.)
