As we approach our formal celebration of the 90th anniversary of the College’s founding by the mission-oriented Dominican Sisters of Peace, we celebrate you – the alumni of our College who have been influenced by the search for truth in all its dimensions. This mission inspires us daily as we continue to be mindful of the contemporary academic needs of our students and to maintain our commitment to the core values of this Dominican College. For many years, Albertus Magnus College has prided itself on providing educational opportunities where they did not previously exist. As a graduate, you know firsthand how invaluable the Albertus experience has proven to be.
During Reunion in June, students from the Student Alumni Association (SAA) served as hosts and volunteered to provide tours and shuttle guests around campus. As tradition keepers on campus, members of the SAA believe it is an honor to meet with those who came before them. Upon meeting the current students, one alumna said, “The members of the SAA were WONDERFUL! They were so enthusiastic about life at Albertus. A real pleasure to meet.” More recently, the Executive Board of the Student Alumni Association traveled to Washington, D.C., to a national convention for student advancement organizations. While there, they hosted a reception for area alumni and again had the opportunity to get to know the people who walked the same paths and sat in the same classrooms as they are and together they shared their love for Albertus. The alumni saw firsthand that students exemplify the same values that Albertus has always upheld. In turn, the alumni showed the students that one’s relationship with the College is lifelong. While the face of Albertus has changed over time, it was obvious that the common bond of this Albertus family – whether you identify as an Aggie Maggie or a Falcon – still strongly resonates among us all.
The past two years have been spent creating a renewed vision for the College: Albertus 2020: A Strategic Path for the 21st Century, which consists of five major initiatives: commitment to the development of in-demand and high-impact academic programs; implementation of innovative, distinctive and flexible delivery of academic services; enhancement of our campus capacity for technological innovation and human creativity; promote enrollment, retention and community spirit through a new focus on the College’s fine athletic programs; and celebration of our inclusive and diverse academic community. As we envision the future of Albertus, we hope to be recognized for academic and technological innovation and for empowering each student to succeed both personally and professionally.
