I’m Leaving as a Stronger and more Ambitious Person | Ashley David’s Senior Story

Originally from West Islip, New York, Ashley decided to attend college out of state. She stated,

Ashley David ’20

“I wanted something not too close to home but not too far, and I wanted to be able to continue playing volleyball while also getting an education. When I first visited the school, I met the volleyball coach, and I felt at home right away.”

As a first-generation student, Ashley felt it was essential to receive an education. “When the idea of college was brought up, there was no hesitation as to if I was going. I wanted to be the first in my family to graduate college, and I wanted to be the role model to my younger family members.”

Over the past four years, Ashley has been involved in several activities, including the Honors Program, first-year orientation leader, lead Admission Ambassador, writing associate, math tutor, psychology program mentor, and the Albertus Magnus College “Day of Service” committee member.

Ashley has also played an active role in Albertus’ Athletics as a member of the Women’s Volleyball team. She is part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the GNAC SAAC Council. She has also won awards for her accomplishments including  being named “Most Valuable Player for Women’s Volleyball 2017”, “GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team 2019”, and receiving the Falcon Award for Women’s Volleyball in 2019.  Ashley also earned the Fearless Falcon Award in 2019 and Admission Ambassador of the Year Award in 2019. Ashley’s dedication to her academic, athletics, and campus community truly is Fearless.

Ashley served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, among other activities.

When it comes to her best Albertus memories, Ashley fondly recalled when she had the opportunity to go to France to learn about the College’s Catholic, Dominican tradition.

“The trip was extremely impactful to me as a person and as a student. I experienced things I would never have imagined, and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is something I will never forget, and it will stay with me forever,” she shared.

Since this is her senior year, what better time than now to ask how Albertus has impacted her personally.  She explained that with the constant encouragement and support she received at Albertus, she had accomplished things that she would have never would have without this opportunity.

“When the idea of college was brought up, there was no hesitation as to if I was going. I wanted to be the first in my family to graduate college…”

“I’m leaving here as a stronger and more ambitious person because I know that no matter what comes my way, I’m prepared to get through it. And I know Albertus and the faculty here will always be my second home and family.”

Ashley herself has made a meaningful impact within the Albertus Community, and we celebrate all of the accomplishments that she has made.

Ashley David is set to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education in Spring 2020.
