They say April showers bring May flowers, but our students really blossomed this month! Here are some of our favorite April 2023 highlights:
Announced Albertus Career eXcelerator

April started off with a bang, with Albertus launching its newest program: the Albertus Career eXcelerator. These certifications and micro-credentials are offered through Coursera and will further prepare Albertus graduates with employer-desired skill sets, making them more marketable in a highly competitive job market. Designed as practical and stackable, the Albertus Career eXcelerator programs are taught by industry experts from corporations such as Goodwill, Google, IBM, Intuit, Meta, Salesforce, SAP, and Tally. The best part? Albertus Career eXcelerator is free to our full-time Albertus undergraduate students!

Leadership Luncheon with Barbara Pearce
To kick off the month, the Dominican Ministries held a Leadership Luncheon with Albertus Board of Trustee Member Barbara Pearce. Barbara was an honorary degree recipient in 1998, and now is the CEO of H Pearce Real Estate and CT Hospice. During this event, staff and students were able to hear Barbara’s words of wisdom, which included ensuring you are making time for the important people in your life by attending weddings, birthday parties, graduations, and other events to celebrate with friends and family. With graduation a few weeks away, now is the best time to heed this advice!
New Haven Register’s Article on Albertus students’ favorite off-campus eateries
On April 3rd, The New Haven Register published an article on the best off-campus eateries after interviewing Albertus Magnus College students… and it’s safe to say they have good taste!

The Outdoor Stations of the Cross
During the Holy Season of Lent, Albertus Magnus College holds its Outdoor Stations of the Cross, a 14-part prayer devoted to what Christain’s believe was Jesus’ path of suffering carrying the cross. This year celebrated the theme of Seeking God’s Love in Our World.

The second prayer station is dedicated to “those who have passed and those who are ill”, where students and staff took the opportunity to pray for our late softball Coach Curt Hawkes (July 6th, 1964 – March 30, 2023). Thank you to all those who took part in this procession!

Spring Week

On the week of April 16th, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) held its annual Spring Week for its students. According to CAB member Charisma Prince, “Spring Week is an outlet for students to relax, be entertained, and also get fun tokens and food before finals and the end of the semester. During this week is when we have our biggest programs of the year, and we get to give back to the students who support us! Students look foward to Spring Week, and we appreciate everyone who supports us through collaborations and by attending our events. This year our theme is loosely based on the Disney experience; we dubbed it ‘CABcation’, bringing a Drag Queen to campus, a food truck, water sports, a petting zoo, snow cones, a popcorn machine, and many more to campus.” A special thank you to CAB for all their hard work!
Earth Fest

In honor of Earth Day, Dominican Ministries sponsored Earth Fest, consisting of multiple events to promote sustainability and enact our Dominican Pillar of Service. Kicking off with Service Day, 110 Students and faculty members came together to volunteer at multiple locations to enact projects of service including: our campus, the Botanical Garden of Healing, Edgerton Park, Friends of East Rock Park, Marrakech Inc, St Martin de Porres Church, St. Mary’s Convent, St. Stanislaus, There’s No Place like Home, URI Spruel Park, and the Springs Learning Center. Additionally, volunteers put together 60 lunches for the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen and wrote 100 thinking of you cards for the homebound clients of UR Community Cares. To finish off the day, Dominican Ministries provided lunches and ice cream to our volunteers. Sister Cathy, who led this year’s Service Day, stated that “We are building a culture of service here at Albertus. We don’t do service for service sake but to reflect on how service might make ourselves and the world a better place.” Thank you to all of those who assisted in making this day a wonderful success!
