Albertus Students Partner with Yale, Create Catholic Relief Services Chapter

Beginning in 2020, Albertus Magnus College and Yale University students joined together to make one Catholic Relief Services (CRS) university chapter.

Catholic Relief Services is a global organization dedicated to humanitarian services, like disaster relief, hunger and housing aid, and community prosperity and empowerment. Rooted in the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, CRS is a nonprofit devoted to helping the world’s most vulnerable and ensuring that the dignity of every individual is upheld.

Our team of students, as well as the global CRS community, have been engaging in political advocacy surrounding the Global Child Thrive Act. This [now] law ensures that vulnerable and underserved children will globally have access to play and developmental resources.

Students have been persistent in communicating with our Connecticut Senators to ensure that the bill gets passed. We have also developed virtual information sessions for the local New Haven community, so that each individual can feel confident reaching out to their senators as well. These efforts have paid off! What a way to celebrate hope this holiday season.

This Spring, our team is looking forward to engaging in even more political advocacy work and continuing communication with local officials. The chapter will be conducting an Equal Exchange chocolate fundraising event around Valentines Day, and multiple virtual events to fundraise and support the fight against global hunger during Lent.

We are so excited that our Albertus students get to be a transformative part in one of the most effective and efficient global charities.  In what has been an incredibly challenging year, our students are bringing hope and light to the world in a tangible way.
