Through the Lens: A Visual History of Albertus, The Pillar of Prayer
The history of Albertus begins with the Dominican Sisters of Pease and their pioneering decision to start a Catholic, liberal arts, residential college for women in 1925 – the first of its kind in New England. Throughout our 99-year history, the Sisters have been the constant. You might make the obvious connection of the Dominican Sisters to the pillar of Prayer – however, if you listen to the Sisters, you will hear them say the pillar of Prayer is upheld by the entire Albertus community. We celebrate this pillar through our words and actions: the Thomas Aquinas Lecture Series; the Meister Eckhart Center; Justice Panels; the Contemplative Garden; through rituals and ceremonies such as the annual Day of Service, Candlelight, Baccalaureate Mass and much more.
We hope you enjoy some historical images of prayer, spirituality, and ritual celebration.
