It’s no secret that New Haven offers some of the finest food in the state. No matter your favorite cuisine, New Haven has something for everyone. Here are some of our top picks for students to visit when they come to campus this fall:
228 College Street

If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, South Bay is the place to be. Located on 228 College Street, this seafood-centric restaurant offers fresh catches and an array of craft cocktails. With outdoor seating options, you can take in the breathtaking views of New Haven while enjoying some of the best seafood in town. Some menu highlights include their Lobster Roll, Pan-Seared Scallops, and Clam Chowder.

South Bay is a must-visit spot for foodies and those looking for a scenic spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of New Haven. The atmosphere is calming and serene, with warm hues and nautical shiplap walls. The menu features Mediterranean-inspired dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that every bite is packed with flavor.
188 ½ Willow Street

Irish immigrant Archibald Moore settled in New Haven in 1898, opening his business on Willow Street and setting the stage for Archie’s award-winning buffalo chicken wings.
Archie’s offers five mouth-watering flavors, including Archie Moore’s Famous Buffalo Sauce, BBQ, Teriyaki, Garlic-Parm, and Raspberry Bourbon. Each order of wings is served with celery and their house-made Blue Cheese Dressing to make the perfect combination of flavors.

If wings aren’t your thing, Archie’s also offers burgers, sandwiches, salads, and amazing appetizers like “Cheese Burger Tots”: tater tots loaded with melted cheddar cheese, seasoned burger sautéed with diced onions, topped with shredded lettuce and tomatoes and drizzled with 1000 island dressing. It doesn’t get better than that.
874 State Street

A visit to Modern Apizza is well worth it if you’re looking for delicious pizza with a history. In addition to the main pizza menu, they also offer specialty pies including the Italian Bomb – composed of bacon, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, pepper, and garlic. Gluten-free options are also available.

With Modern Appiza’s story beginning with Antonio Tolli, an Italian American raised in Italy, it’s no surprise that their pizza is some of the highest quality in New Haven. Located at 874 State Street, Modern Apizza is ranked as the best restaurant in New Haven by TripAdvisor. In 2022, they won a Traveler’s Choice award for their consistently favorable reviews. They also won awards from Playboy Magazine and the local New Haven Advocate poll.
