Today, our nation transitions to new presidential leadership and our democracy begins anew, as it does every four years and has now for more than two centuries, presenting the promise of hope and opportunity. My hope and prayer for our nation and for our community is that in the days ahead, themes such as love, respect, opportunity, equity, peace, and sister- and brotherhood will define us and our nation.
Yesterday afternoon, as I reflected on the Inaugural “National Moment of Unity and Remembrance” that was scheduled for 5:30 p.m., I came across a picture of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. Etched on one side of the monument is a quote from Dr. King, reading, “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” May we soothe the despair from those we’ve lost in the pandemic and heal the division that’s defined the political landscape, embracing the hope and promise that our democracy, and its constitutional tenets, bring forth on this inauguration day.
You and those you love are always in my thoughts and prayers.
In peace,
Marc M. Camille, Ed.D.
