Travel with an Albertus Alumna Artist

Alumna Becky Slivinsky graduated from Albertus in 2015 with a B.A. in Art. An exceptional artist she also started 51 of 76 games for the women’s soccer team and was captain her senior year. Becky was heralded by Coach Nick Wajnowski ’06, “as a shining example of what a student-athlete should be.”

I moved to Savannah, Georgia in June of 2016 to pursue an MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Although I am a certified art teacher Pre-K through grade 12, with a terminal degree in painting, I will have the option to teach at the collegiate level in the future. With this being said, I am not limiting my options to just teaching. I will have the opportunity to take on many different career paths with this degree, whether it be working in a gallery, being a studio assistant, owning my own business, or being an independent artist.

Right now, I am studying at SCAD’s Lacoste, France campus. Having the opportunity to explore the world in ways that I could have never imagined is not only allowing me to grow as a woman, but also as an artist. Being exposed to different parts of the world and experiencing different cultures has truly been life-changing.

The current political situation in our country along with some personal events have really pushed me to express what it like to live as a woman and to use my voice as best as I can to speak up for us. I have been researching how women are portrayed in the media, mainly in magazines. Women’s bodies are commonly used as a commodity, and now I am taking this idea and applying it to European culture.
