Alumni Spotlight: Larry Cole and The AMpower Fund

By: Larry Cole

For our own individual reasons we are all proud of the degree we obtained at Albertus Magnus. Personal achievements have a way of shaping our lives for years to come.  The class of 1997 will celebrate its 20th Reunion in 2017. I find it amazing that 20 years have passed so quickly! Reflecting on this milestone reminds me of when I took a leap of faith to enroll in the New Dimensions program and became the very first person to do so. That singular decision has had an incredibly positive impact in my life.

What I learned from my classmates in the the New Dimensions program is that every student’s journey was different but we all came to Albertus with the same purpose.  For me, this program came at a point when I was relatively content.  I was 45 years old, with 25 years spent in corporate life.  I could have maintained status quo and looked forward to retirement, but I was restless for a new opportunity.  Albertus Magnus College was advertising the introduction of the New Dimensions program and the format piqued my interest.  I knew it was what I was looking for.  The New Dimensions and the education I received not only enabled me to earn my degree, but empowered me to pursue career changes which ultimately resulted in future promotions. Recall your own story, your path to Albertus and I am sure many of you feel similarly about your experience.

Larry Cole Photo (1)I am proud of my alma mater for being a pioneer in providing educational opportunities for working adults.  Even now, in retirement, I am grateful for the opportunities, experiences and relationships that my Albertus education has afforded me.  Recently, I felt it was time for me to reflect on what my degree meant personally and career wise.  That being said, I knew it was now time for me to give back. Yes, I have given to Albertus Magnus, but wanted to do more.

After working with the Office of Advancement My wife, Kathy, and I decided to create and kick-off The AMpower Fund – a new scholarship fund that intends to provide much needed financial assistance to non-traditional students and empower them to keep forging ahead on the path to a degree.

Many people know the challenges of starting or completing a degree as a working adult.  If this pursuit moves you, I am invite you to join me in leading the effort to establish a long-lasting legacy at the College by contributing to the The AMpower Fund.

As Albertus alumni, our academic and professional legacy is a great one. Please help enrich this legacy by supporting future non-traditional students.  I look forward to celebrating our shared success in leading the charge of The AMPower Fund.
