The preseason for Men’s Volleyball is one of the most exciting parts of the season. Everyone is hyped up to start playing. It is also a time for the players to get back into shape and shake off the rust that has been accumulating over the past ten months. All of the players are eager to begin playing with another and start exploring potential game lineups.
The 2014 team feels similar to the last couple of years, but the overall focus and determination of the team is at an all-time high. We greatly underachieved last year and were not able to sustain team unity throughout the season. Using last year as motivation, this year’s team is determined on achieving success this year, no matter what bumps in the road might arise.
This year’s team is surely the most talented team that I have been a part of here at Albertus. Our team has been assembled from a variety of different players from different places, each with a unique set of skills to bring to the table. There is a good deal of returning players, as well as new players who will be just as instrumental to our success as anyone on the team.
Despite numerous players experimenting at different and new positions, no one has complained or allowed his morale to decrease. We, as players, know that we need to be ready to play whichever position is asked of us. Coach is pushing us to accept the roles that are asked of us and not make excuses for poor performance. We have been aggressively conditioning over the last few weeks because many of us know that our formidable competitors in the GNAC are doing the same thing in preparation for the season.
I think that other teams, especially ones in the GNAC, will be surprised and terrified when they take the court against us this year. We are much more focused than last year and have added key pieces and positions that make us a force to be reckoned with. This team strives to get better every practice because each player understands that he will have a certain role on the team and will need to perform that role to the best of his ability to better the team. The team also gets tighter with each and every practice.
I can already tell that we are going to have a ton of fun this season, on and off the court. We don’t want to settle for being just average this season. The returning players know what this team is capable of and the new players have joined our winning culture in stride and expect to win and have fun this season. I truly believe this will be the most successful season in the history of the Albertus Men’s Volleyball team; I hope we get the crowd support at home games to keep us fired up on the court! SEE YOU THERE – GO FALCONS!
